Formal Support for All Saints

Our support for the All Saints Project expansion

Ref: MC/12/0035 and MC/12/0036

We are writing collectively as the ward councillors for Chatham Central and Luton & Wayfield, both wards wrap around the site covered by both the above applications.

We believe the current status of the property as an empty public house could be a target for anti social behaviour and would therefore welcome a move to ensure it is not left empty.

We also believe that the proposal from the local church would greatly enhance the local community by providing a much needed community hub which has been requested by residents for some considerable time. We also note that the church and the aligned community project has carried out extensive community consultation for use the property.
On that basis, we would therefore urge that applications MC/12/0035 and MC/12/0036 be approved.

All Saints Christmas Fete

Chatham Labour Councillors getting an update on the Magpie Tavern, Chatham

Luton & Wayfield Ward Councillor's attended the All Saint's Residents Fete on Saturday where we received an update on the Magpie Centre which we are supporting via our Ward Improvement Funds.

The centre will be an excellent resource that will allow outreach into the community which does have significant issues.

The centre will have a specialist teaching room and the downstairs will be a Cafe which will be open to all.

Cllr Godwin also enjoyed the flower displays:

All Saints Residents FĂȘte

Chatham Central / Luton & Wayfield Councillors

The Councillors for Luton & Wayfield and Chatham Central attended the fete at the All Saints Church on 7th May.

An event managed by the vicar and the fantastic team in the local All Saints Resident Association, who are celebrating the purchase of the Magpie Hall pub, which is to be converted into a resource for the entire community. The church and residents organised a free BBQ and Cllr Christine Godwin was able to get her car washed by the local scout troope.

The purchase of the Magpie Hall Pub will allow the centre to expand its outreach into the surrounding community, and hopefully strengthen the partnership with the Sure Start facility opposite, to provide holistic services for not only young people but also a centre for the elderly locally.

Commenting on the event Cllr Tristan Osborne (pictured with cake) stated

"It is great news that the facility will be able to expand and be a resource for the entire community partnering with the Church and the Sure Start centre opposite. Inner City Chatham is one of the most deprived parts of the South East and it is important that groups and Associations are supported and helped"

We will continue to support the centre and its work in Luton.
